Designer working over construction drawings

What the first day of a project looks like

What we look at between the site visit and the first drawing.

When we first walk into a space we look at light before we take measurements: which wall the windows reach at which hour, where the shadow falls through the day. The material palette usually comes out of that observation.

Services come second. The position of existing shafts decides what can and cannot move, and the plan is built around that constraint.

Only once those two are settled do we draw. On projects where we tried it the other way round, the plan that looked good on paper came apart on site.
